Sandvik brings all the musical diversity of his aural transcriptions and performances of traditional African-American a cappella music from his solo work to this duo with vocalist and educator Vanessa Morris. Formed in Fall 1998, the combination of a jazz and classical influenced acoustic guitarist and a historically knowledgeable vocalist performing music that originally featured a single, sometimes wordless vocal line offers boundless potential. Using the originals to spark their creative imaginations, the duo creates a new, reverent approach to performing the nearly forgotten source material.
